Duke of Edinburgh Young Leaders
What is the Duke of Edinburgh Young Leaders Programme?
The DofE Young Leaders Programme is an extension of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award that gives young people the opportunity to develop leadership, responsibility and confidence by supporting others who are completing their own DofE journey. Young Leaders play an active role in helping to deliver the Award, acting as positive role models while developing valuable personal and life skills of their own.
What Does the Programme Include?
- Supporting the delivery of DofE sections such as Volunteering, Physical, Skills or Expedition
- Assisting staff with sessions, briefings and events linked to the Award
- Mentoring and encouraging younger pupils as they progress through their DofE
- Developing organisational, communication and teamwork skills in real-life settings
- Reflecting on their experiences and evidencing their contribution to leadership and service
All activity is carried out under appropriate supervision, with a strong emphasis on responsibility, safeguarding and positive leadership.
Benefits of Taking Part
- Leadership development - building confidence, resilience and the ability to lead and support others
- Employability skills - gaining practical experience that enhances CVs, applications and interviews
- Personal growth - developing independence, maturity and a strong sense of responsibility
- Community contribution - making a meaningful difference within the school and wider community
- Next steps and progression - strengthening understanding of leadership pathways, volunteering and future opportunities
Young Leaders often describe the experience as highly rewarding, as it allows them to give back while developing skills that are transferable to education, employment and life beyond school.
