Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award
The Bronze award is offered to all students at the at the beginning of Year 9.
Bronze Award Timescales
Volunteering section: 3 months
Physical section: 3 months
Skills section: 3 months
Students also have to do 3 more months in one of the Volunteering, Physical or Skills sections. (Totalling 6 months for one section)
Expedition section: 2 days/1 night Qualifying. We also complete a full set of training sessions and some after school sessions to ensure they are fully prepared for their remotely supervised qualifying expedition.
The Physical, Skill and Volunteering sections can be completed concurrently or one after the other. We ask that students complete 2 sections and have started the third before they go on the expedition in June. We find that those who have made this commitment go onto complete their award and often then go on to Silver.
Assessors
The students will need to find an assessor for each of their three sections, this person must be over 18 and have an interest or expertise in the section and MUST NOT be a family member. The students will meet with their assessor BEFORE they start their section to discuss their aims for the 3 or 6 months. The assessor will then monitor progress and write a report at the end of the time.
The report will need to be submitted to www.eDofE.org/assessor, or handed written on the participants record book and then photographed and uploaded to the participants eDofE account. Full details and training will be given in lunchtime session throughout the academic year.
